Canopy Bed Hotels in the Curonian Spit

Wild Dunes & Baltic Romance

Curonian Spit… You are probably more than a little intrigued right now 😅. After all, there is a good chance that you had never heard of this place before today.

And yet, it is one of the most magical and unexpected destinations we have ever had the privilege of discovering in Europe.

The Curonian Spit, also known as Neringa, is a long stretch of sand listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, separating the Baltic Sea from the Curonian Lagoon. Half of this fascinating peninsula belongs to Lithuania, while the other half lies within Russia’s Kaliningrad region. Its history is complex, ever-changing and captivating… much like its landscapes.

Everything here feels calmer, slower and more poetic. Vast dunes, pine forests, colourful fishing villages and wild beaches that remain almost deserted outside the peak season… the atmosphere is deeply romantic.

My daughter and I actually stayed in a genuine canopy bed room here — the very first one of our lives 😅 — and the memory remains incredibly vivid to this day. There is simply something unique and unforgettable about this place.

The Curonian Spit can easily be included as part of a Baltic itinerary, particularly from Riga or Vilnius, travelling through Klaipėda before reaching Nida or Juodkrantė. And honestly? This is exactly the kind of destination we wholeheartedly recommend making a detour for. Whether you are planning a romantic weekend escape or an entire week shaped by the rhythm of the dunes and the Baltic Sea, the Curonian Spit offers an atmosphere that is remarkably difficult to forget.
