Editor's Canopy Bedroom of the Week
A closer look at one of the our favourite canopy bedrooms in Brno
Some hotel rooms simply offer a comfortable place to sleep. Others transport you into a completely different world.
Hidden inside OROOM Boutique Hotel in Brno, the India Room immediately immerses guests in a warm, theatrical atmosphere inspired by the colours and decorative richness of the Indian subcontinent. Flowing ceiling drapes, glowing lanterns, intricate wall motifs and a traditional wooden four-poster bed combine to create one of the most distinctive bedrooms we’ve encountered in the Czech Republic.
Located just a short walk from Brno’s historic centre, this unique room offers couples an immersive experience where the canopy bed becomes the true heart of the entire design.
Why we selected this bedroom
Every week, Lelitbaldaquin highlights one canopy bedroom that has genuinely caught our attention.
This week, our choice takes us to Brno, where OROOM’s India Room demonstrates how a four-poster bed can completely transform the atmosphere of a bedroom. Rather than relying on luxury finishes alone, the designers have created a fully immersive setting using warm colours, layered textiles, decorative murals and carefully orchestrated lighting.
Unlike traditional boutique hotels, OROOM is built around immersive themed bedrooms, each designed to transport guests into a completely different world. The India Room is the hotel’s only bedroom featuring a genuine four-poster bed, making it our natural choice for this review. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, planning a romantic getaway or simply looking for a stay that’s anything but ordinary, it offers an experience that goes far beyond a conventional hotel room.

First impression
The atmosphere is immediately striking.
Rather than creating the impression of a standard hotel room, the designers have transformed the entire space into a romantic retreat inspired by exotic interiors. The eye is naturally drawn upwards towards the flowing fabrics suspended across the ceiling, while the warm lighting creates an intimate cocoon from the moment guests step inside.
Every decorative element works together to create one coherent atmosphere, making the room feel carefully staged without appearing artificial.
The canopy bed
Without question, the canopy bed is the centrepiece of the room.
Unlike many contemporary four-poster beds that stand almost alone within minimalist interiors, this bed becomes part of a much larger composition. The solid timber frame is visually extended by flowing ceiling drapes that transform almost the entire ceiling into one enormous canopy.
This creative interpretation preserves the romantic spirit of the traditional four-poster bed while making it feel considerably more immersive.
Despite the abundance of decorative elements surrounding it, the bed never feels lost. Instead, everything in the room naturally guides the eye towards it.
Interior design & decor
This is where the India Room truly stands out.
Rather than attempting an authentic historical reconstruction, the décor draws inspiration from Indian palaces through colour, texture and atmosphere. Decorative wall motifs, warm ochre tones, dark timber furniture and brass accents create an exotic setting that feels theatrical without becoming overdone.
A carefully balanced palette of amber, terracotta, burgundy, chocolate brown and antique gold runs throughout the room, while layered textiles—velvet cushions, sheer drapes, heavy curtains and patterned bed linen—add warmth, depth and intimacy.
Layout & space
Although considerably smaller than the Prague suite we previously reviewed, the room makes intelligent use of its available space.
The bed naturally dominates the layout, while bedside furniture and lighting remain discreet enough not to distract from the overall composition.
Rather than offering multiple living areas, the room focuses entirely on creating one comfortable and visually immersive sleeping environment.
Light & atmosphere
Lighting is one of the room’s greatest successes.
Instead of relying on bright overhead illumination, several softer light sources work together to create a warm evening ambience. Bedside lamps, the decorative oriental lantern and delicate fairy lights suspended within the ceiling canopy all contribute to an atmosphere that feels intimate and deeply relaxing.
Once night falls, the room arguably becomes even more beautiful than during daylight.
Staying in this bedroom
Spending the night here feels almost like stepping onto a film set.
Morning light gently filtering through the ceiling drapes creates an entirely different atmosphere from the warm glow of the evening lanterns, allowing the room to evolve throughout the day.
I can easily imagine returning here after exploring Brno’s historic streets, drawing the heavy curtains, switching on the fairy lights and simply enjoying the remarkable atmosphere created around this beautiful canopy bed.
It is exactly the kind of bedroom that encourages guests to slow down and savour the experience instead of rushing back out again.
The location
Just 15 minutes from Brno’s historic centre by tram 3, OROOM offers an unexpected escape where each evening feels like travelling to another country before returning to the city the next morning.
OROOM Boutique Hotel allows visitors to explore the city’s cafés, restaurants and architectural landmarks on foot before returning each evening to one of its uniquely themed bedrooms.
Unlike many chain hotels, staying here becomes part of the travel experience itself.
Best for...
This room is particularly well suited to:
- couples seeking an unusual romantic getaway;
- travellers who enjoy themed boutique hotels;
- four-poster bed enthusiasts;
- guests looking for highly photogenic interiors;
- anyone wanting an immersive overnight experience rather than a conventional hotel stay.
The little & big extras
The room’s greatest luxury is undoubtedly its atmosphere.
Rather than offering extravagant facilities, it succeeds through careful attention to detail. The combination of layered lighting, decorative textiles and immersive design creates a memorable setting that feels entirely different from a conventional boutique hotel.
Guests looking for a romantic overnight experience rather than simply a place to sleep are likely to appreciate exactly this approach.
One small reservation
Travellers expecting a minimalist contemporary interior may find the décor deliberately theatrical.
That, however, is precisely what makes this bedroom so memorable. Rather than following current design trends, it embraces a strong decorative identity that creates a genuine sense of escape.
Should you book this bedroom?
Absolutely, if you’re looking for one of Brno’s most original romantic stays.
Its beautifully staged canopy bed, warm lighting, layered textiles and immersive Indian-inspired décor create an atmosphere unlike any standard hotel room.
For travellers who value ambience, creativity and memorable interior design, this is undoubtedly one of the most distinctive canopy bedrooms we’ve featured so far.
